We asked Ms. Tetiana Fecan-Baştepe to tell us a little more about the phraseology collection:
"The uniqueness of this collection is that it is the first Ukrainian-Turkish collection of phraseological units and it is a joint project of teachers and students of the Ukrainian branch of Istanbul University The Department of Ukrainian Studies at Istanbul University is the only one in the Republic of Turkey. We were motivated to compile this collection by the fact that without knowledge of phraseology it is impossible to get acquainted with the culture of the country, its traditions and customs.
Phraseologisms are living, active and everyday language. We use a lot of idioms every day and don't think about it. We decided to start with the 100 most used idioms (100 idioms for every day).
We worked out a lot of phraseological units and it was quite difficult to choose 100. We analyzed phraseological dictionaries of the Ukrainian language according to frequency of use. Popularity was assessed according to the regional aspect and the use of their Turkish counterparts was taken into account.
We managed to implement our project thanks to the creativity and cohesion of our teaching staff and extremely persistent and diligent students."
