Ukrainian communities organized demonstrations because of Russian atrocities in Olenivka

On July 30 and 31, 2022, Ukrainian communities took part in mass protests after the killing of Ukrainian prisoners of war in the colony in Olenivka, Donetsk region. The campaign was initiated by the public organization "Viry".

Activists called on the leaders of the countries to recognize Russia as a terrorist state, to advocate for the release of Ukrainian prisoners of war.

Manifestation was held in Berlin, Krakow, Istanbul, Montreal, Frankfurt, Geneva, Warsaw, Batumi, Tbilisi, Cardiff, Amsterdam, Alicante, Riga, London, Sydney, Porto, Bratislava, Paphos, Brno, Milan, Rome, Hamburg, Zurich, Thessaloniki and on the island of Gran Canaria.

One of the barracks of the penal colony in the village of Olenivka in Donetsk region, where Ukrainian prisoners of war were kept, was destroyed on the night of July 28-29. At least 50 Ukrainian prisoners of war who were held there died, reports Radio Svoboda.

Ukrainian authorities said that Russia orchestrated the attack on the colony in Olenivka and the mass killing of Ukrainian prisoners to blame and discredit Ukrainian forces, in particular to harm the supply of effective weapons to Ukraine, and called on international organizations to respond.
