Online School About Ukrainian Diaspora Was Organized for Students

On June 16, the Interdisciplinary Franco-Ukrainian summer school began for students of Yuriy Fedkovich National University of Chernivtsi under the Erasmus+ program. The summer school is organized by Yuriy Fedkovych National University of Chernivtsi, IAE Metz School of Management of Lorraine University, Global Ukraine Foundation, Lorraine Ukraine Exchange Association.

The first week of the summer school took place in an online format and was dedicated to the work of Ukrainian communities in different countries of the world.

The speakers of the program were:

  • Serhiy Sayenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Morocco.
  • Serhiy Korsunskyi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Japan.
  • Dr. Violeta Moskalou, founder of the Global Ukraine Foundation and the Global Ukrainians network, professor at Lorraine University, president of the Lorraine-Ukraine Exchange Association.
  • Oleksandra Sayenko, head of the NGO "Center of Ukrainian Initiatives", public figure, cultural manager, founder of the Ukrainian culture festival in Austria UStream and the running club UStream Runners.
  • Svitlana Melnyk, Ukrainian jurist, candidate of legal sciences, specialist in international law, author of books and numerous scientific works, senior researcher of the Volodymyr Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (on a public basis), activist and public figure, wife of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine in Germany (2015-2022) and Brazil (from 2023 to the present).
  • Marta Oliynyk-Dyomochko, researcher-Africanist, candidate of political sciences, Global Ukraine.
  • Natalia Poshivaylo-Tawler, vice-president of the World Congress of Ukrainians in the countries of South and Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, head of the educational reference office of the World Federation of Ukrainian Women's Organizations, head of the Union of Ukrainian Women of the State of Victoria, Australia. Diaspora researcher, author of books.
  • Oleksandr Romanko, PhD, Director of Quantitative Research of Financial Risks at SS&C Technologies Canada, part-time professor at the University of Toronto, American University Kyiv, UKU, chairman of the Committee for Innovation, Education and Science Support at KUK.
  • Olga Sukhobokova, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of New and Modern History of Foreign Countries of Taras Shevchenko KNU, founder of the Diaspora.ua project.
  • Olenka Bravo, author and co-organizer of the project "Batkivska hata. Homestead", co-founder of the first Ukrainian community in the city of San Antonio and Ukrainian school in San Antonio, co-founder of the Ukrainian-American platform "Unity", co-organizer of ethno calendars, volunteer, deputy head of the 147th Department of the Union of Ukrainian Women of America.
  • Yanko Bohdan Peñafort Lobunets, Colombian musician of Ukrainian origin, founder and leader of the band "Los Yankovers".

Students learned about the history of emigration, Ukrainian diasporas, their projects, relations between Ukraine and different parts of the world. In particular, important attention was paid to the work of Ukrainians in Europe, relations between Ukraine and Africa, the history of Ukrainian emigration to America (North and South), Australia, activities of Ukrainian branches in Japan, Brazil, Morocco, Austria, France, cultural diplomacy of Ukrainians in Colombia.

During the classes, the students noted how diverse and large-scale the projects of Ukrainians in different parts of the world are and what potential lies in this for the promotion of Ukrainian interests.

The summer school for students will continue in the face-to-face format in the French city of Metz.
