NBU issued a commemorative coin in honor of Vasyl Slipak
In February, the Ukrainian community in France started collecting signatures for a petition to issue a collector's coin in honor of Vasyl Slipak. The world-famous Ukrainian opera singer, a soloist of the Paris National Opera since 2015, defended Ukraine and was killed on June 29, 2016 by a sniper's bullet near the town of Luhansk.
On June 7, information about this commemorative coin appeared on the website of the National Bank of Ukraine. "They released it! It was very responsible! Why was the date of birth and death avoided, because legends do not die! And this is our legend, which we must remember and tell to all future generations! This person is comparable to Heracles and Orpheus in one person, even cooler - because Vasyl existed for sure and we are his contemporaries! It's a pity that the majority of the population of Ukraine does not know how to appreciate their own heroes!" - noted the artist Andrii Yermolenko, who developed the design of the coin.
The coin is made of nickel silver, its weight is 12.8 g, and its diameter is 31 mm. The coin will be put into circulation on June 21, 2021, but it can already be ordered online. Circulation - 35 thousand pieces.
